Legal Director, Women's Resource Center, Scranton (Posted March 10)
The Women’s Resource Center is seeking Legal Director (LD) to manage the civil legal representation component of the Barbara J. Hart Justice Center as well as the grants, reporting and overall operation of the Center. LD coordinates and supervises WRC’s civil legal representation for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual violence in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties in accordance with philosophy and mission of WRC and in full compliance with all funding sources. Establishes an atmosphere of equality and respect among staff and participants reflective of WRC philosophy. Responsible to assure provision of civil legal representation which is client-centered including the provision of legal information, consultation and representation for participants. Supervise the project’s staff attorney(s), legal assistants and law student interns. Partner with domestic violence and sexual assault advocates to address the comprehensive needs of survivors of intimate partner violence. Work collaboratively with agency leaders to plan and conduct outreach, training, and systems advocacy efforts for the improvement of the legal, housing, and economic system’s response to violence against women and all forms of intimate partner violence.
Additional Qualifications:
At least 5 years supervisory experience in a family law firm, public interest legal organization, legal services organization, or equivalent. Experience in the practice of family law along with familiarity with the court system. Woman-centered advocacy experience with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Law Degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
