Communications Manager, Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, Philadelphia (Posted March 10)

The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger (GPCAH) is seeking a Communications Manager to advance its mission of fighting hunger through education, outreach, and advocacy. The position would be responsible for planning and implementing communications initiatives targeting numerous constituencies, including government agencies, the general public, and donors. An ideal candidate would have a thorough understanding of anti-hunger policy and the impact of hunger on the Philadelphia community. We are hoping to find someone who can raise the profile of hunger issues, while solidifying the Coalition’s reputation as a leader in the field. S/he should feel comfortable working in a diverse range of settings.

Job duties include, but are not limited to: – Develop a communications plan that integrates the Coalition’s advocacy, communications and fundraising needs – Monitor and prepare information about trends in local, state and federal anti-hunger policy – Research and write special reports, issue briefs and other client materials on emerging policy issues around hunger and poverty – Develop media strategy; draft pitch letters, op-eds and press releases – Develop new communications tools, with a focus on new media, to disseminate information about food resources to a wider audience – Develop a dialogue with policymakers and the general public about anti-hunger issues – Conceive of and manage creative media/press events – Brief staff on issues and developing talking points and briefing materials. – Assist in grant writing and reporting when relevant – Assist Executive Director in developing communications pieces for donors and foundations (letter, annual reports, etc.)
Additional Qualifications:

Applicants should have:; – At least 3 years experience in communications with strong written and oral presentation skills – Excellent networking skills – Ability to multitask and willingness to work hard – Talent for energizing and inspiring others to action
